VETS4PETS SHOWS SUPPORT

Isle News, 4 July 2009 – A leading local firm has teamed up with one of Guernsey’s traditional summer shows, to help secure the event’s future.

Vets4Pets has become the principal sponsor of the South Show, which takes place every August in St Martin’s Community Centre, with a horse show staged at the BSJ show jumping ground, in the Forest. The Show serves the parishes of St Peter Port, St Martin’s, St Andrew’s and the Forest. Peter Watson, founder and Managing Director of Vets4Pets, said he was really looking forward to getting involved: ‘It’s something that we’d been thinking about for a while, as the local practice and our national support centre are both based in the heart of St Martin’s. When the Bailiff called on local firms to support traditional events, last year, we felt that we were well placed to help and I’m delighted that we have come on board.’ He added: ‘The shows are a vital part of island life and we really want to help the South Show to develop and grow.’

Peter Watson paid tribute to the show’s committee: ‘The fact that there still is a South Show is all down to the stamina and dedication of Richard Breban and his committee of volunteers. They’ve kept the show going, despite many challenges over the last few years, and we are pleased to able to help. We’ve had a meeting and everyone agrees that the South Show has a bright and exciting future.’

Richard Breban, President of the South Show Committee, welcomed the news: ‘We’re very pleased to have secured a principal sponsor, which takes a lot of the pressure off the organisers and lets us focus on putting on a first class South Show. Vets4Pets will also be physically helping out with setting up and taking down stalls, which all helps.’ He added: ‘I’m pleased to say that the South Show is starting its second century in good shape.’

The 101st South Show will take place 14-15 August at the St Martin’s Community Centre.
