THE WEIGHBRIDGE WELCOMES TANGUYS
Isle News, 22 September 2009 – The revitalisation of the Weighbridge continues as stylish new bar Tanguys joins the fold.
The up-market bar replaces the Corinthian Pub, which had run its course over 15 years after taking over the venue that was previously the Sussex Hotel.
Inspired by London’s chic social scene, Tanguys celebrates its vibrant town setting and aims to be a retreat for both local socialites and visitors. While the original physical structure of the building remains unchanged, the interiors have been completely renovated to maximise space and create a unique and sophisticated venue.
The new business, run by local duo Chris Tanguy and Manageress Tracy Martinez, will open with a string of VIP invitation-only nights from Monday 21st to Thursday 24th September. The general public will then get their chance to enjoy Tanguys from Friday 25th September.
The bar has visions to revitalise the local bar music scene and bring something unique to Jersey. It boasts an impressive events calendar with international artists making guest appearances. Tanguys is starting in style by flying in DJ Rubber Ron from Chinawhite, London, and special guest percussionist, Mr Stixx, from Pacha, Ibiza, for the launch.
The Tanguys team, including a whole host of local contractors, have achieved a stunning renovation. Furnishings and materials have has been flown in from Italy, Denmark and America to create three unique rooms; Diamond, Emerald and Ruby. The rooms enjoy luxurious furnishings; one is defined by its gold silk rushed ceiling, another by its emerald lighting and inset wall seating and the third by a state-of-the-art bar and real Swarovski crystal spot lights.
Complementary to the stylish design and ambiance, the bar list is extensive and sophisticated. It celebrates the latest trends with a specialist cocktail range including delights such as ‘Tanguys’ – their equisite signature cocktail – and the sublime mix cheekily named ‘Botox’.
The bar will not be competing on a culinary scale with other eateries close by. They will however be offering the catering services of neighbouring business, Coffee Junction, when private and corporate functions are booked at Tanguys.
The venue, which will be open daily from 4pm to 11pm, is the vision of Chris Tanguy, who has worked in the local entertainment scene for more than 30 years.
Chris Tanguy, Tanguys, said:
‘We have already fostered good relationships with surrounding businesses and we hope to work with them to make the Weighbridge area the hotspot of the Jersey social scene. It has been my aim for many years to open Tanguys, I feel there is a gap in the market for a bar in this location that is sophisticated without being pretentious and the concentration will always be on offering quality brands and unbeatable service.’
Tracy Martinez, Manageress, Tanguys, added:
‘Tanguys is so far removed from what it was before that it has to be seen to be believed. I’m really proud of what we have achieved and can’t wait to share it with the public. We have so much planned for the coming season, including guest appearances from an array of international DJ’s and artists who have never played commercially in the island before. They will be complemented by our extensive bar selection, a philosophy of quality service and an unbeatable ambiance.’
