The Isle of Man – the perfect location for your business and family
An island apart
If you’ve never visited Isle of Man, you’ve missed a real treat. Situated in the Irish Sea equidistant from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the Island’s rolling hills, picturesque glens, miles of dramatic coastline and rare flora and fauna make it one of the UK’s most unspoiled holiday destinations.
The Isle of Man also has a rich cultural heritage. Its’ parliament ‘The Tynwald’ is the world’s oldest known parliament in continuous existence, dating back to A.D. 979. Today, the Isle of Man is a Crown Dependency, but remains independent from the UK in matters of foreign policy and taxation.
Thriving economy
Dubbed ‘The Manx Tiger’ in a recent Financial Times special report, the Isle of Man remains one of Europe’s most successful economies, posting growth averaging 6% for more than 25 consecutive years. The secret of the Island’s economic success lies in its ability to reinvent itself and respond rapidly to changing market conditions. Just 30 years ago, the Island was almost wholly-dependent upon agriculture and tourism, which were the mainstays of the economy; today it is an internationally-renowned offshore finance centre and home to organisations from high value sectors such as shipping, aerospace, film and television production, telecommunications and e-gaming.
Taxation freedom
The Island’s stable economy, AAA Sovereign Credit Rating and zero rate of corporation tax makes it very attractive to blue-chip companies. The standard rate of income tax levied on individuals is 10% with a top rate of 18%, which is capped at a maximum level of £100,000 per annum irrespective of earnings. There is also no Stamp Duty, Death Duty, Capital Gains, Wealth or Inheritance Tax, making it a very attractive location for high-net-worth individuals and entrepreneurs.
World-class infrastructure
Over the last decade the Island’s Government has invested over £1 billion in capital projects, ranging from an award-winning power station, a new hospital, state-of-the-art energy-from-waste plant, schools, leisure facilities and several marina complexes. At the same time, private sector investment of several hundred million pounds has created high quality large-scale office, retail, commercial and residential developments.
The Isle of Man is also at the forefront of telecoms and I.T. development and benefits from highly-resilient sub-sea and underground telecommunications and electricity networks. The Island has the UK’s first 3.5G mobile broadband network and the main telecoms provider is soon to launch its new fixed/mobile converged Next Generation Network (NGN); making the Isle of Man the first nation in the world to benefit from this technology.
Luxury property market
The Island’s stable economy, low levels of taxation and excellent quality of life have made it a very attractive location for businesses and high-net-worth individuals alike. Average house prices remain stable and estate agents report strong demand for high-value, executive property.
