Isle News, 8 September 2009 – Sure is helping one of the Island’s brightest young sporting talents to stay in touch with her mum as she heads to the bright lights of London – and hopefully a glittering football career!
Elizabeth ‘Bert’ Stanley has secured a place at the prestigious Arsenal Ladies Football Academy, where she will complete academic qualifications as well as train for a career with one of the most successful female teams in the UK. The 17 year old, who is the Sure-sponsored Isle of Man Women’s Football Team goalkeeper, and until recently played for Sure Mobile Women’s League side Rushen United, is tipped for the top by football scouts who have watched her in action.
To help Bert keep in touch with her mum, who lives in Ramsey, the telecoms company has given them both new Nokia handsets. She has taken advantage of the recent introduction of ‘Mobile Number Portability’ (MNP) to take her existing number to Sure. As her mum is a Sure customer, this will allow them to take advantage of the ‘Sure Friends’ scheme; for a top-up of £5 per month, Bert’s mum will be able to call and text her daughter for free. Bert will also be able to receive calls for free whilst in the UK.
Bert commented: “I was delighted when Sure has approached me with a sponsorship deal. The company has done a lot to support the development of women’s football on the Island over the last two years, so I am very happy this extends to a personal level now that I am furthering my career off-Island.
“Joining the Arsenal Ladies Academy is a dream come true for me, but having never lived outside the Isle of Man before, I know I will miss my mum and my friends a lot. Sure will allow me to stay in touch with them on a regular basis and I am very grateful for that.”
