NO CAR RULE PROVES NO OBSTACLE TO MANX TELECOM EXCHANGE CHALLENGERS

Isle News, 13 May 2009 – Pictured, left to right, sailors Joyce Armstrong, Barry Dulson, Nigel Latham, Roy Maddrell and Katie Dulson who took part in Manx Telecom’s Exchange Challenge charity event in which staff attempted to get round as many of the company’s ten out of town exchanges in the day without using a car.

They were among around 90 employees and family members who took part in the event last Sunday morning, setting off from Manx Telecom headquarters after a rousing send-off from the Manx Saxophone Ensemble, who had gathered for an impromptu concert outside the building.

The participants either walked, jogged, sailed or kayaked to at least one exchange, raising around £1000 for Sailing for the Disabled and The Hyperbaric Chamber.

Fittingly, the sailors, who are all associated with Sailing for the Disabled, entered into the spirit of the event by taking the Pride of Mann from Douglas to Castletown. No one begrudged them the short journey by car to get to their start point at Douglas Harbour!

Human Resources Supervisor Judith Walker who helped organise the event said the Challenge had once again proved a big success. “We held this for the first time last year and it was great to see so many people turn out again. We’d also like to thank members of the public who offered their support and gave cash donations en route. I’d like to think that this will develop into an annual event,” added Judith.
