Managing Director of Kleinwort Benson, Jersey, will be on top of the world
Isle News, 9 October 2009 – The Managing Director of Kleinwort Benson, Jersey, will be taking a trip to the top of the world to raise money for Autism Jersey.
Angus Taylor and his wife, Janet, will be taking on the challenge of trekking to Mount Everest Base Camp.
At 8,848m Everest is the highest mountain on Earth and is located on the border between the Sagarmatha Zone, Nepal, and Tibet in China.
The Taylors’ 13 day-adventure will take the intrepid trekkers overland out of Kathmandu to the extreme high altitude of the Khumbu Glacier. They will fly up to Lukla (2800m), then climb over the next 10 days to reach Everest Base Camp at (5300m) and ascend Kala Pattar (5545m).
The Taylors will be 4,500m above sea level for five days, facing temperature that range from 20 degrees to minus 20 degrees.
“All in all it’s a 19 day trip and we are anticipating a real physical and mental challenge, and who knows maybe some enlightenment too,” said Mr Taylor.
“Last year we did a six day trip along the West Highland Way and Ben Nevis, raising more than £2,000 for Autism Jersey in the process. We hope to at least match that this year with our Everest challenge.”
Autism Jersey is a local charity which champions a full and inclusive life for people with autism, Aspergers Syndrome and other associated complex developmental disorders, by raising awareness and working in partnership with all agencies to help and support them, their families and carers.
“The money raised by Angus and Janet will be used for a whole range of projects, most especially our non-legal advocacy service which provides free, independent advice to people with autistic spectrum disorders and associated condition and their carers,” said Philip Le Claire, Executive Director of Autism Jersey.
“Unlike many other charities in the Island, Autism Jersey receives no funding whatsoever from the States of Jersey and so these kinds of fund raising events are even more precious to us. We are eternally grateful to Angus and Janet, who have been staunch supporters right from the very earliest days, and we will make sure that we buy them plenty of Compeed blister plasters!”
