LOCATION OF MANX TELECOM BAY FESTIVAL IS REVEALED
Isle News, 19 June 2009 – The venue for the 2010 Isle of Man Bay Music Festival can now be revealed.
The event, which is sponsored by Manx Telecom in association with Manx Radio, is taking place from 18-20th June 2010 at Nobles Park, Douglas.
Douglas Borough Council has given its backing for the site to be used during the weekend after TT 2010. Europe’s biggest festival tent will be erected on Nobles Park and each night, 10,000 people will be able to see performances from some of the biggest names in music. The artist line-up is due to be announced later this year.
Manx Telecom Bay Festival Director, Jonathan Irving, commented: “I am really delighted that we have secured Nobles Park as it is on the doorstep of 35,000 residents and is easily accessible for those who need to travel with plenty of easy parking.
“In 2007 we had artists such as ‘The Who’, and people are expecting similarly big names in 2010. We expect this event to attract both national and international interest. Staging an event which will be on this scale requires huge amounts of preparation and organisation, and we will be working with the island and the community around Nobles Park to ensure that it brings minimal disruption.
“I am very grateful to everyone for really getting behind this festival and I couldn’t ask for any more co-operation and encouragement from Government, both locally and nationally. Many people are telling me they can really start to feel the excitement and the buzz that is starting to build around this festival which is now exactly 12 months away.”
As the festival build time is three weeks, it will be necessary to work on the set-up during TT fortnight. Jonathan continued: “It is obviously important that we fit in with the TT rather than the other way around. Therefore the two event producers who were involved in the Peel Bay Festival in 2007, Richard Agar and Ian Bone, have been on the Island during this year’s TT to examine the logistics of building the Manx Telecom Bay Festival in Nobles Park around the TT. Between them they have over 50 years experience of hosting multi-stage festivals so they know what they are doing.”
“This was the first opportunity we had to hold a full meeting of the festival team since 2007. I know that with what we are planning, anyone who went to the 2007 festival and enjoyed it is going to have an amazing experience in 2010!”
