KING WILLIAM’S COLLEGE DUO SET TO SHOWCASE THEIR MUSICAL TALENT
Isle News, 13 July 2009 – Two pupils at King William’s College are celebrating after winning places on a prestigious residential music course this summer.
Flautist Giverny McAndry (15) and violinist Callum Finch (17), will take part in the National Schools Symphony Orchestra summer programme. It is being held between the 12th and 19th July at Millfield School in Somerset.
Giverny found out she had won her place on the course just days after finishing in third place in the ‘Young Musician of Mann’ competition, which took place at the Erin Arts Centre.
They will study work from composers including Vaughan Williams, Schumann and Mussorgsky. The course will end with a concert directed by internationally-renowned conductor, Mark Shanahan.
Dr Sarah Welch, Principal of King William’s College, commented: “Winning a place on such a prestigious course is incredibly competitive so both Giverny and Callum should be very proud of their achievement. The National Schools Symphony Orchestra course will be most beneficial for their understanding of music and playing techniques. I hope they have a wonderful time!”
