Jersey Dairy’s new ice cream lanches at the 2009 Branchage Jersey International Film Festival

Isle News, 1 October 2009 – Movie buffs will enjoy a chilly reception at the launch of the 2009 Branchage Jersey International Film Festival, when they sample Jersey Dairy’s new ice cream pots, while watching an Oscar nominated documentary set in Antarctica, the coldest continent on earth.

Jersey Dairy hostesses, dressed in retro 1950’s cinema attendant costumes, will greet film fans and VIPs offering each of them a free pot of the luxury Strawberry, Dark Chocolate or Vanilla ice cream as they enter the Opera House theatre for the unveiling of ‘Encounters At the End of the World’, by German filmmaker Werner Herzog.

It is the first time Jersey Dairy have made the small 125 ml ice cream pots, traditionally remembered from cinema days of old. Each pot includes an integral plastic spoon and comes in a choice of Jersey Dairy’s famous luxury ice cream in Strawberry, Dark Chocolate or Vanilla, made with real Jersey skimmed milk and Jersey cream.

Jersey Dairy’s Managing Director, Eamon Fenlon said that the ice cream pots will be smaller versions of the popular Jersey Dairy luxury ice cream.

‘We are thrilled that our new ice-cream pots will be enjoyed for the first time at the launch of the Branchage film festival, which is becoming an important cultural event in the Island’s calendar ’, he said. Many will remember the cinema attendants of days gone by, selling their trays of ice cream pots during film intervals, so Branchage is the perfect occasion to launch an up to date version of such a traditional, well loved product. In fact it is the first time Jersey Dairy has ever made ice cream pots, so hopefully this is the start of a whole new era for us.’

The ice cream pots will be free for everyone attending the launch night of the festival on Thursday 1 October, and then available for moviegoers to buy throughout the festival (1 – 4 October). The ice cream pots will be available at the Spiegeltent and Town Hall. The ice cream pots are also now available to buy from supermarkets, ice cream vendors and cafes around the island.

Branchage Creative Director, Xanthe Hamilton, said they were pleased to have the support of Jersey Dairy:

“Branchage is delighted to host the launch of the Jersey Dairy ice cream pots. Whilst we aim to surprise and entertain our audience, this is a wonderful way to combine treasured cinema traditions with a contemporary cross-arts experience. Branchage offers a unique opportunity to promote our Island’s treasures, and Jersey Dairy ice cream is certainly one of them! This will inevitably provide some additional charm to the festival’s Opening Night.”

Jersey Dairy is also sponsoring the trailers between the movies during Branchage Festival.
