ISLE OF MAN STEAM PACKET COMPANY HELPS SURE APPRENTICE FINALIST TO RAISE FUNDS

Isle News, 15 July 2009 – The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is supporting a high school student by helping him raise money for charity onboard one of its vessels.

Aaron Kelly is one of two finalists in the Sure Apprentice competition and for his final task he has decided to complete a full day’s sailings onboard Manannan raising money for the charity Wish Upon A Dream. To ensure that passengers don’t miss him, Aaron will be dressed in a fairy costume as he makes his way around the vessel with his collection buckets on Manannan’s Douglas-Liverpool sailings on Saturday (July 18).

Wish Upon A Dream is an Isle of Man registered charity. It was launched in 2007 and its primary role is to grant wishes for sick and terminally ill children living in the Island.

16-year-old Aaron, from Ballakermeen High School, will be onboard the 0730 Douglas to Liverpool sailing, the 1130 Liverpool to Douglas sailing, the 1530 Douglas to Liverpool sailing and the 1930 Liverpool to Douglas sailing.

Aaron said: “I would like to thank the Steam Packet Company for its assistance with my final challenge. I am very grateful as without them this opportunity to raise money for Wish Upon A Dream would not have been possible.”

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: “We are delighted to be able to support such a worthwhile cause. Aaron has already been highly successful in reaching the last two in the Sure Apprentice. We wish him further success in his fundraising efforts, which will go towards granting the wishes of sick and terminally ill children living in the Isle of Man, as he seeks to win the competition outright.”
