ISLE OF MAN SET TO HOST A SECOND MAJOR MUSIC FESTIVAL

Isle of Man Bay Festival 2010Isle News, 30 April 2009 – Organisers of the 2007 Peel Bay Music Festival are delighted to announce that they will be holding another music festival in the Isle of Man in 2010.

‘The Isle of Man Bay Festival’, as it will now be known, will take place between Friday 18th June and Sunday 20th June 2010, the weekend after the close of the TT, at a location which will be confirmed in the summer. This is likely to be in the Douglas area for a number of logistical reasons.

‘The Isle of Man Bay Festival’ will build on the unprecedented level of success enjoyed by the Peel Bay Festival in 2007 which saw international A-list artists including The Who, Madness, The Stranglers, Bonnie Tyler, Robin Gibb, Sugababes, Ronan Keating and McFly take to the stage, as well as some of the Isle of Man’s best home-grown talent including Davy Knowles/Back Door Slam and Samantha Barks. More than 25 000 Manx residents and TT visitors passed through the turnstiles over the seven-night period in 2007.

The event will once again take place inside Europe’s largest festival black-out tent which seats
5 000 people and allows standing room for a further 5 000. It is being organised by Jonathan Irving and his son, Jamie, of Peel-based Street Heritage, in conjunction with some of the UK’s most highly-experienced music festival producers who were involved in making the Peel Bay Music Festival such a success.

Each of the three nights will be focused on a different musical genre and, once again, will bring musicians of the highest calibre to the Isle of Man. As with ‘The Who’ in 2007, there will be a world-renowned artist who appeals to a number of generations, an Indie band that will appeal to the young adult/student market and a group that will have a wide family appeal. There will also be a number of supporting artists. The full festival line-up will be announced later this year; main sponsors will be announced shortly.

Jonathan Irving, Director of the Isle of Man Bay Festival, commented: “I am delighted that we will be holding another music festival here in 2010. The Isle of Man Bay Festival is going to be a Manx festival that everyone either living on the island or coming over especially for it, can enjoy and be proud of. We very much want this to be a ‘feel-good’ festival.

“The success of the 2007 Peel Bay Festival and the incredible feedback we’ve had from so many people is behind our decision to host this event again next year. I want this to grow into a successful, annual event and hopefully put the Isle of Man on the music festival map, at the same time giving something back to the people who live here.

“Rumours are already rife and the excitement and speculation is already building about the artist line-up. Some of the world’s premier recording artists will be on the bill and this really will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for so many Manx residents. I am really looking forward to announcing the full artist line-up later this year – I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!”

A further announcement about the Isle of Man Bay Festival will be made towards the end of May 2009.
