Isle News, 2 September 2009 – JonnoPromotions with support from the IOM Arts Council and Visit Isle of Man presents IOM & MGP GuitarFest 2009. 2009 is the second IOM & MGP GuitarFest – last year featured Albert Lee & Juan Martin

GuitarFest 2009 is comprised of 4 evening Concerts; 5 weekend Masterclasses; and the Manx Telecom Acoustic Stage – with more than 45 local guitarists and musicians performing free of charge in the Villa Arcade.

The 4 evening concerts are on the evenings of Thursday 3 to Sunday 6 September (inclusive) at The Gaiety Theatre, Douglas & The Centenary Centre, Peel.  The concerts feature internationally acclaimed guitarists Gordon Giltrap, Pierre Bensusan, Gary Ryan, Rod Clements and Angelo Palladino.  Visiting support acts for the weekend are Michael Berk, Pete Smith and Roger Inniss, and Amrit Sond.

5 Masterclasses at Peter Norris Music, Douglas, led by GuitarFest headliners (Saturday and Sunday) including Bass Guitar workshop by Roger Inniss

45 local guitarists/musicians performing on the Manx Telecom Acoustic Stage in the Villa Arcade on Friday, Saturday & Sunday afternoons (open to the public and completely free of charge)

Thursday September 3, 2009
Blues/Rock night featuring Angelo Palladino & The Skeleton Crew and local support from Walter Ego.  Angelo Palladino co-wrote a song with local star Christine Collister some years ago, he also wrote and performed parts of the soundtrack to the film “Leaving Las Vegas” starring Nicolas Cage & Elisabeth Shue.  He played solo when he performed with Jon Gomm in Douglas in February.

Modern Classical Guitar Recital by Gary Ryan, with support act Pete Smith and Roger Inniss (Jazz/Folk/Roots).  Gary Ryan is the youngest appointed professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London.  He is a multiple award winning guitarist and composer – one of the finest players of the age.

A night of World, Folk and Contemporary acoustic guitar music from GuitarFest co-headliners Pierre Bensusan – Guitar Player Magazine’s “Best World Music Guitar Player” 2008 – and the legendary guitarist and composer Gordon Giltrap (who has won more awards and plaudits than one dare mention) playing separately with support from Michael Berk, solo instrumentalist.

In the 1980s Gordon Giltrap wrote and performed the theme tunes to holiday programmes Wish You Were Here (ITV) and for the BBC’s Holiday and has won countless awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award from Ards International Guitar Festival in 2008.

A night of acoustic and slide guitar from Rod Clements with support from Grammy award winning world music guitarist Amrit Sond.

Rod Clements was a member of Lindisfarne and wrote some of their best known songs including “Meet Me On The Corner”.

Concessions are available for students (including children/young people), forces/reserves, senior citizens, CFCs (cared for & carers). Motorcycle club members (Manx MCC, Vintage MCC, etc.), MGP and TT marshals, MGP riders and teams (on presentation of valid ID at the Welcome Centre or box office) all qualify for concessionary prices. (savings of 30-40% off individual event prices).

There is also a “12 for 10” (12 tickets for the price of 10) group booking deal available (for each individual concert).
