IOMCC’S INCA TRAIL CHALLENGE DRAWS THE CROWDS!

Peru Trek TeamIsle News, 30 March 2009 – It seems as though there’s a real appetite on the Isle of Man to take on the challenge of Peru’s world famous Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

Douglas Yacht Club was packed last week when details were unveiled of the Isle of Man Children Centre’s sponsored trek later this year to one of Latin America’s most hallowed sites.

The trip, organised in conjunction with specialist charity challenge organisers, Global Adventure Challenges, attracted nearly 90 budding adventurers, a turn out described as “phenomenal” by Event Director Peter Robinson. “In all the years I have been working for this company, I have never seen a crowd this large at a launch night,” he said.

Highlights of the adventure include trekking over three mountain passes that rise up to 4200 metres, experiencing cloud forest and deep jungle, exploring ancient Inca sites only reachable on foot, before reaching Machu Picchu, the most revered and breathtaking Inca ruin in Latin America.

Given the high altitude of the Inca Trail, he also emphasised the importance of undertaking a fitness and training programme beforehand. Details were also provided as to how participants can fund the trip.

“The exciting thing about this adventure is that it is along the only genuine Inca Trail route that leads to Machu Picchu. You need special passes to go on this and we are thrilled that so many people from the Isle of Man are taking such a keen interest,” said Peter.

It’s hoped the event will raise thousands of pounds for the IOMCC while at the same time providing an unprecedented opportunity for local people to experience a spectacular location on the other side of the world.

If you missed the launch, the good news is there is still time to register, although places are limited.
