IMS RECRUITS CONSULTANT OCCUPATIONAL PHYSICIAN
Isle News, 2 July 2009 – Occupational health specialist Independent Medical Services is expanding its team by employing Consultant Occupational Physician, Dr Karen Nightingale.
Independent Medical Services was launched in 2001, and practises from Hawarden Road in Douglas. The company offers a number of medical services including occupational health, disability assessment, medical examinations, corporate and personal health checks and medical screening.
In her new role, Dr Nightingale will provide advice on a wide variety of occupational health matters. As well as carrying out occupational health assessments on individuals referred to Independent Medical Services by employers, she will also work with private clients, and with HR Managers and Managing Directors on various aspects of health planning.
A Bachelor of Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics, Dr Nightingale is also a Member of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, has a Masters in Public Health, a Diploma from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and is a Diplomat of the Faculty of Public Health. She has worked with various private companies throughout the UK including Peugeot, Yell, Emcor, Abbey and Norwich Union, and within the public sector including working with the Police, Fire and Ambulance services, NHS, local authorities, schools and universities.
She has experience in teaching and has carried out a number of audits including ill-health retirement in a Police force, business mileage versus a company’s carbon footprint and the environmental impact of paper usage versus having a paperless office.

“Karen has many specialist areas within her occupational health remit including pre-employment screening, health surveillance, sickness absence management, work-related ill health and retirement, undertaking executive medicals and staff management tasks. Her background in public health has provided her with valuable experience working with communicable diseases, vaccinations, emergency and pandemic planning.
