Ernst & Young wowed by number and quality of visual art search entries

Isle News, 8 June 2009 – ERNST & Young’s visual art search has attracted 26 local artists, all eager to be selected for one of three commissions the firm is offering.

The artists have submitted portfolios of their work and suggestions of the piece they would create for the firm’s new office along a theme of “Guernsey’s beauty”. Those entered cover a broad range of ages, artistic education and mediums; from art students to experienced professional painters and amateur photographers.

Their portfolios are currently on display to Ernst & Young’s employees and an anonymous voting system is being used to gauge the preferred submissions among the Ernst & Young individuals. An official announcement of the selected artists will be made on 12 June.

“We are so impressed with the volume and quality of responses our search has received. It seems that almost everyone who requested a brief has submitted a portfolio and a draft of their proposed piece, which is fantastic. I am very grateful to them for taking the time and effort to do this,” Nina Driscoll, marketing and business development manager at Ernst & Young Channel Islands, said.

“As anticipated, the entries cover a broad range of mediums and experience which is, in itself, proof of the strong artistic culture that exists in Guernsey. We are going to have a difficult time making our decision due to the high standard of all the submissions, but I am confident that we will be able to select three artists for the commissions whose style the whole firm and visitors will appreciate.”

The three commissions are each worth at least £1,500 and the artists will be given until the end of September to complete their work before it is hung and unveiled at the firm’s official office opening later in the year.

This initiative is inline with Ernst & Young’s longstanding commitment to the arts in the UK.  In recent years the firm has sponsored Renoir, Rodin and Monet’s exhibitions at prestigious London galleries.  Locally it has given support to Guernsey’s Frances Lemmon and Jersey artist Nicholas Romeril.
