Ernst & Young hold charity week in aid of Hope for Guernsey
Isle News, 1 June 2009 – A week’s fundraising activity initiatives by Ernst & Young has raised over £2,000 for medical research charity, Hope for Guernsey.
The firm’s corporate responsibility week ran throughout the week and included employees walking or cycling to work, sales of homemade salads and juices and a dress down day.
The week culminated in a charity dinner with guest speaker Dr Steve Evans, consultant from MSG, who recounted experiences from the five Ultraraces he has undertaken. The evening included a quiz based on Dr Evans’ anecdotes and a charity auction by Clive Maides of a Matt Banahan rugby shirt and a Matt Le Tissier football shirt, signed by the respective players, and a return flight with Blue Islands.
The week of fundraising follows on from Ernst & Young’s support for Dr Evans who attempted an extreme Alaskan Ultrarace, the Iditarod Trail Invitational, in March. While Dr Evans was unfortunately forced out of the race due to food poisoning after four days, he still managed to raise a substantial amount of money for Hope.
Ernst & Young’s marketing and business development manager, Nina Driscoll, said: “While we have supported Hope for Guernsey in the past, a lot of our people wanted to do something of their own to support the charity. The CR week was an enjoyable way to include as many people as possible and do something healthy in homage to Steve’s incredible levels of physical fitness.
“Ernst & Young will also be linking up with the Medical Specialist Group to take part in a charity walk in support of Hope. The firms will rally 100 walkers to tackle a 3.5mile route. While this is a leisurely stroll for the individuals, collectively they will walk 350 miles, the same distance as Steve’s most recent Alaskan ultrarace challenge.”
Roger Allsopp, chairman of Hope for Guernsey, said: “Ernst & Young have demonstrated great commitment in following up what was a generous sponsorship with further fundraising, and shows the level of interest the firm takes in the charities it supports.
“The money Ernst & Young has donated will go towards furthering our Cancer Research programme at Southampton University Medical School.”
