EAST MEETS WEST FOR SURE APPRENTICE FINALIST ROBYN

Robyn Sayers, Sure ApprenticeIsle News, 14 July 2009 – East will meet West next weekend when one of the Sure Apprentice finalists stages the event she hopes will win her the competition.

Robyn Sayers, 17, is hosting an evening of musical entertainment with authentic Indian cuisine at Broadway Baptist Church in Douglas on Saturday 18th July 2009. The event begins at 7.30pm and tickets are £15 each. All of the money raised will go to the Wish Upon A Dream’ charity. No alcohol will be served at the event due to it being held in a church.

Robyn has organised a wide variety of entertainers to perform on the night including the ‘Young Musician of Mann’ Meghan Quane, guild class winners Simon Lynch and Bryony Grant and folk group ‘Ben Vanninagh’, as well as several other classical, jazz and modern musicians.

During dinner, guests will watch a slideshow charting the charity’s work so far in the Isle of Man. Afterwards, there will be a raffle featuring prizes including a tooth whitening and facial from Tracey Bell, a mobile phone from Sure, a photoshoot with Keigs, a meal for two and many more.

Robyn is one of two finalists in the ‘Sure Apprentice’ contest, which has involved teams of students from Ballakermeen High School over the course of the current academic year. They were put through to the final after being interviewed by Ruth Badger, a finalist in the BBC television show ‘The Apprentice’ featuring Sir Alan Sugar.

Sure has given Robyn £500 to help organise her event. This final task will be scored on managing a budget, leading a team and the amount of money that is raised for ‘Wish Upon A Dream’ which Sure has supported for the last year. The prize is an apprenticeship this summer with Sure.

Robyn commented: “It has been very challenging to organise this event whilst at the same time completing my first year of A-Levels. However, I have found this really interesting and have learnt a lot about event management, of which I didn’t know anything before!

“I would be delighted if people bought tickets to support this event, which is raising money for ‘Wish Upon A Dream’, a very worthwhile charity that supports a lot of families in the Isle of Man. It will be a really enjoyable evening featuring some of the best young musicians the Island has to offer as well as great food. Please give generously!”

Tickets can be purchased from the Sure store on Strand Street, Douglas from Saturday 11th July or by emailing Robyn – Robyn.L.Sayers@Student.sch.im.
