Durrell and Bank to celebrate golden anniversary of partnership with exhibitions
Isle News, 26 March 2009 – RBS International and Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust are joining forces to celebrate a shared golden milestone.
2009 marks Durrell’s fiftieth anniversary and RBS International, which has provided banking services to the organisation since its inception, has arranged two exhibitions to mark the fifty year old partnership.
Gerald Durrell, who established a zoo in Jersey in 1959 with the aim of saving endangered animals from extinction, opened a bank account with NatWest in St Helier on March 24 the same year. The Bank has enjoyed a strong relationship with Durrell ever since, and has been a regular supporter of its conservation work in addition to providing banking services.
The exhibitions, which will be at RBS International’s headquarters in Bath Street and NatWest Library Place for two weeks, open on March 23. Durrell photos from the past 50 years will be on display and the public is invited to drop in to enjoy the photos.
Ian Henderson, Chief Executive of RBS International, commented:
“When Gerald Durrell set up the bank account fifty years ago he had a firm belief that he could make a difference to the conservation and protection of endangered species around the world. Durrell has become world-renowned and an institution of which Islanders are extremely proud.
We at RBS International and NatWest are also proud of our strong relationship with Durrell. Over the years, as well as providing banking services, our staff have participated in a number of projects at Durrell and we look forward to more projects planned during this special year.”
