CHARITY FUNDS SOAR AS BUNGEE JUMPERS LEAP INTO RECORD BOOKS

IOMCC Bungee JumpIsle News, 13 August 2009 – The endeavours of more than 50 bungee jumpers have helped raise thousands for charity and create a little piece of history for the Island’s record books.

The event, staged in near perfect conditions at the Royal Manx Show in aid of the Isle of Man Children’s Centre, was the Island’s highest ever bungee jump with thrill seekers leaping off a 165 feet high crane.

The spectacle not only provided Show visitors with day-long entertainment but also amassed £5600 for the IOMCC.

In addition, one lucky prize entrant, James Quayle of Fort Anne Road, Douglas, won himself a free jump off Britain’s tallest bridge bungee, the 200 feet Transporter Bridge in Middlesborough.

The IOMCC’s Adventure Events Fundraising Coordinator Mark Eastham said the day had been an unparalleled success.

“The weather was perfect and this obviously contributed to making it such a memorable event,” said Mark. “We were really pleased with the number of people who decided to give it a go. It was spectacular to take part and I’m sure it provided spectators with plenty of entertainment watching from the ground.”

Mark’s already planning to reach new heights at next year’s Show. “It would be great to do an even higher bungee jump in 2010. After all, records are there to be broken!” he said.

Meanwhile, funds raised are likely to go to Mobex, the IOMCC’s mobile outdoor education facility for young people.
