Best of British for Bohemia’s Shaun Rankin

Shaun RankinIsle News, 16 March 2009 – Four years after being awarded his first Michelin Star, renowned chef Shaun Rankin from Jersey’s Bohemia Bar & Restaurant, has successfully earned a place on BBC Two’s popular culinary show, Great British Menu.

The fourth series of the hit television series, which will be aired from late March, will see Rankin vying against 16 of Britain’s top chefs for the opportunity to cook a glorious homecoming banquet.  Judged by author, chef and entrepreneur Prue Leith, food writer Matthew Fort and restaurateur Oliver Peyton, this culinary 21 gun salute will honour the men and women recently returned from active service in Afghanistan, along with their families who have supported them.

The 2009 Great British Menu will retain its distinctive format: two great culinary talents battling it out in the kitchen to create a magnificent British meal that the judges and public consider fitting for the country’s returning heroes.  Rankin will be competing in the South West region against Nathan Outlaw from Restaurant Nathan Outlaw in Fowey, Cornwall.

Since its launch in 2004, with Rankin at the helm, Bohemia has received an impressive array of accolades, including a Michelin Star which it has held onto since 2005, 4 AA Rosettes and a coveted A** in Harden’s UK 2006 Restaurant Guide.  Rankin has been heralded as ‘a hugely accomplished talent, cooking at the top of his game’ by the 2009 Good Food Guide and ‘one of the most gifted, highly polished chefs in the British Isles’ by The Independent’s Food Critic Terry Durack.

Rankin is naturally delighted with the news, ‘It’s a great opportunity both for me personally, and for Bohemia to be recognised at a national level once again.  Aside from the competition it would be an absolute honour to cook for the heroic men and women who have risked their lives for Britain’.
