BARRY CELEBRATES HIS 62ND VISIT TO THE ISLE OF MAN TT THANKS TO MANX2.COM
Isle News, 9 June 2009 – One lucky TT fan has been experiencing the star treatment since practice week began on Saturday thanks to Manx2.com and the Department of Tourism and Leisure.
Barry Briggs is visiting the Isle of Man to watch the TT again this year – for the 62nd time! Manx2.com is so impressed with his dedication that it flew Mr Briggs to the island for free from Leeds-Bradford airport in time for the start of practice week, where he was met with a red carpet reception led by the company’s Senior Manager, Judith Musgrave, and political member for the Department of Tourism and Leisure, Geoff Corkish MBE MHK.
Seventy-eight year old Mr Briggs, who is from Keighley in West Yorkshire, used to travel to the island regularly to watch the races with his wife. However, since her death nine years ago and despite his ill health, he continues to visit the Isle of Man and pursue his love of motorbike racing. His dedication has also been recognised by the DTL, which has presented him with a solid silver commemorative tankard.
Manx2.com’s Senior Manager, Judith Musgrave, commented: “Barry Briggs is a fantastic ambassador for both the Isle of Man and the TT, and it is our pleasure to be able to bring him to the island as our guest of honour this year. Such dedication is wonderful to see and I hope he has a fantastic stay.”
Mr Briggs commented: “The TT is the highlight of my year and the atmosphere watching the racing is just amazing. As soon as I got on the plane to the Isle of Man, the adrenaline started again and my star treatment from Manx2.com has been wonderful! The TT holds some wonderful memories for me, particularly of watching legends such as Geoff Duke and David Jefferies. I’m delighted to be here again and can’t wait to watch the action in Race Week.”
