Isle News, 29 April 2009 – Staff at Barclays Wealth took part in an inter-bank football challenge which saw teams from Barclays Wealth, Lloyds TSB and Royal Bank of Scotland International, battle it out against each other to help raise money for local charity, Manx Cancer Help.

Each year staff at Barclays Wealth choose a different local charity to benefit from various fundraising events. Manx Cancer Help was chosen as the 2008 Barclays Wealth Charity of the Year.

The idea for the inter-bank football challenge came from Barclays Wealth employees Stephen Pountney and Christian Cellamare, who wanted to hold an event to help raise funds for the Charity of the Year. Stephen and Christian worked with Tommy Miller of Lloyds TSB and Craig Dalton from RBSI to organise the teams taking part in the challenge.

Seven-a-side matches were played on the all-weather pitch in Peel, with Lloyds TSB winning the tournament after a thrilling penalty shoot-out against RBSI. £3,000 was raised through sponsorships and players’ donations and the cheque was presented to Manx Cancer Help representatives earlier this month.

This contribution brings the total amount raised by Barclays Wealth for Manx Cancer Help in the last year to over £23,000, with a range of events from sponsored runs to leg waxing!

Andrea Chambers of Manx Cancer Help said: ‘We were delighted to be chosen as the Barclays Wealth Charity of the Year. We would like to extend our thanks to all the members of staff who have worked so hard on all the fundraising events throughout the last 12 months, this money has been a wonderful boost to our small organisation and helped us to expand our services offering emotional support to anybody local whose life has been touched by cancer.’

The 2009 Barclays Wealth Charity of the Year is in the process of being chosen and an announcement will be made next month.
