BARCLAYS WEALTH’S CHARITY OF THE YEAR – WISH UPON A DREAM
Isle News, 28 August 2009 – At the half way point of 2009, staff at Barclays Wealth have already raised £10,000 for their Charity of the Year, Wish Upon a Dream.
Each year staff are asked to nominate local charities which they think deserve to be the recipients of Barclays Wealth Isle of Man’s principal fundraising efforts for the year. The charities which receive the most nominations are then asked to present to the Barclays Wealth Isle of Man Charity Committee which selects their Charity of the Year.
Wish Upon a Dream was set up in 2007 by Lesley Turnbull to help raise money to grant wishes for sick and terminally ill children on the Island. From swimming with dolphins to visiting Santa in Lapland, there is always a wish which the charity is working towards granting for a poorly child.
Lesley Turnbull said: ‘We were delighted to be selected as the Barclays Wealth Charity of the Year for 2009. Without sponsorship and donations it would not be possible to grant wishes and so the support of organisations such as Barclays Wealth is invaluable to us as a charity. Sadly, there may be occasions when time is against us in making a dream wish come true, so it is vital that funds are always available. I would like to thank all the staff at Barclays Wealth for their fundraising efforts so far this year and hope that this will be a year filled with making dreams come true for local children.’
Events to date have included participation in the Parish Walk, an indoor triathlon, and various dress down days. Barclays Wealth has many other events planned for the next six months to raise even more money for Wish Upon a Dream.
Ian Pilley, Head of Continuous Improvement at Barclays Wealth, said: ‘Each year we are impressed by the dedication and generosity of our staff in their fundraising for the Charity of the Year. During the last seven years staff in the Isle of Man have raised over £300,000 for local charities. Wish Upon a Dream is such a worthwhile cause and it is clear that the money raised this year will be put to excellent use making the dreams of sick children on the Island come true.’
