AFM Director achieves Chartered status
Isle News, 26 May 2009 – A member of the Board of a Channel Islands facilities management company has received the Chartered Director Award from The Institute of Directors (IOD).
Chris Leach, Company Director at Amalgamated Facilities Management for over 12 years (see note 1), has been awarded his Chartered Director Certificate. In order to qualify for the award, Mr Leach had to complete the IOD Diploma in Company Direction successfully, submit a portfolio of experience and pass a Professional Review Interview by a panel of IoD assessors, in London.
Mr Leach said he was delighted to receive the award: ‘It’s good to achieve chartered status, but the most valuable benefits are the skills that you develop along the way. The programme has very practical applications, which translate into effective business leadership and sound corporate governance. I found it fascinating and very rewarding.’
Mr Leach said he intends to put the training into practice: ‘The next 18 months will be challenging for all businesses, but I feel confident that I’m now equipped to assist and lead our Board to achieve long term success for AFM. The Chartered Director programme gives you a clearer perspective of your business and the market in which it operates.’
Mr Leach paid tribute to the programme: “It’s excellent and something that I hope other members of our team will undertake. I’d certainly recommend it to anyone looking to develop the long term growth of their business.’
Mark Thompson, Chairman of IoD Guernsey, commented: ‘We were delighted that Chris had attained Chartered Director Status, which is quite an achievement. The status as a Chartered Director is well respected throughout business and in Guernsey we have an excellent record in the IOD Directorship Programme which enhances the skills of those taking the qualifications and of Guernsey as a jurisdiction as a whole.’
Mr Leach said that the facilities management market is evolving: ‘To be successful in any business you need to be closely in touch with the needs of your existing and potential clients. We place a strong emphasis on innovation in service development which has led to the launch of our professional energy surveys, building management controls systems and services management packages.’ He added: ‘I am confident that this approach will throw up new opportunities over the next few months, whatever the wider economic situation may bring.’
