‘ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL’ CAMPAIGN FOR NEW DRAMA FACILITY
Isle News, 6 October 2009 – Isle of Man businesses and individuals are being asked to ‘Buy a Brick’ for the new performing arts centre at King William’s College.
Margaret Mansfield, Barrovian Foundation Manager, commented: “We are delighted to launch our ‘Buy a Brick’ scheme – our first brick was bought by our Chief Minister Tony Brown MHK who has had links with King William’s College all of his life.
“This new facility is not only important for drama itself, but for raising the overall confidence of our pupils. The skills they acquire here will stand them in good stead for the future to deal with work and social situations.
“It is our aim to sell 5,000 bricks at £50 per brick, and the first phase of the £5 million project will be completed in June 2010 when our campaign ends.
“We are very positive about the feedback we have received so far but would like further support from companies who are looking for a worthwhile cause to support next year. Anyone can buy a brick and we hope that King William’s College alumni both on and off the Island will contribute.”
The Performing Arts Centre will be used by the community as well as King William’s College pupils. A calendar of special events will be held for sponsors of the venue once it is completed.
Margaret concluded: “Remember a brick is for life! We are looking forward to businesses getting involved in a project which will be a permanent reminder of their support and will provide our children with a fantastic performing arts facility for generations to come.”
Names and company logos will be displayed on a specially designated wall in the Centre, and progress will be shown on a virtual wall on the Foundation web site. May King William’s College alumni are now involved in the business community and the Barrovian Foundation hopes for a good level of support.
